The Safety Hero Award allows employers and community leaders to create and promote awareness about the importance of workplace safety. Employers nominate employees who promote a safe work environment through following safety policies and procedures.

Nominees are not required to be safety or health professionals. This award acknowledges and recognizes safety and health contributions, participation, and impact of front-line employees in the workplace.

Nominators must provide information to support the nomination by describing the individual’s achievements, contributions, or impact in workplace safety and health. Consider contributions in one or more of the following areas:

• Safety and health leadership – Leadership in advocacy of worker safety and health initiatives that are beyond the traditional scope of one’s position.
• Innovation in safety and health – Development of innovative practices and procedures that reduce occupational hazards and risks.
• Teamwork promotion – Encouragement of team safety awareness, communication, and advocacy of a safe and healthy workplace.
• Hazard identification and correction – Encouragement of improved safety self-audits, incident reporting, and other practices that lead to hazard reduction.
